inTouch Practitioner Teach-in Series: Session 2, Culturally Safe Practices in Family Violence Identification and Screening

The inTouch Practitioner Teach-in Series is a new, interactive learning initiative for frontline practitioners, offering expert-led, small-group sessions on culturally responsive family violence practice, with a focus on practical tools, real-life case studies, and collaborative discussions. This session requires prior approval and Session #2 is limited to Family Violence Intake and Triage Practitioners only. Please read the description fully before registering.

Description

In this session, we’ll focus on creating culturally safe practices for identifying and screening clients impacted by family violence. Through a case study activity, you’ll learn how to adapt intake and triage processes using the MARAM Assessment to ensure they are culturally inclusive and sensitive, which helps build trust and engagement with clients from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

A key focus will be recognising signs when women minimise their experiences as well as how to manage personal assumptions from affecting the intake process. Practitioners will also have the chance to ask practice-related questions to Daniela, our Family Violence Intake Practitioner for tailored, real-world guidance.

Please attend the session with some prepared questions and/or deidentified case-based questions.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand key elements of cultural safety in screening and intake and practical strategies of implementing them.

  • Build confidence in handling sensitive topics with respect, professionalism, and an awareness of cultural factors that may influence client disclosures.

Please note: To ensure an interactive and engaging one-hour with our practitioner, each session is limited to 20 participants. To give everyone a fair chance, we ask that only one practitioner per organisation signs up. Please only register if you can fully commit to attending and actively participating, with your camera on/ready to interact with our speaker.

When registering, kindly use your work email address as inTouch will only approve registrations from official accounts. We’re excited to have you be part of this practical learning experience!
