inTouch Practitioner Teach-in Series: Session 3, Identifying systems abuse when supporting women on temporary visas
The inTouch Practitioner Teach-in Series is a new, interactive learning initiative for frontline practitioners, offering expert-led, small-group sessions on culturally responsive family violence practice, with a focus on practical tools, real-life case studies, and collaborative discussions. Attendance to this session is subject to approval. Please read the description fully before registering.
Description
Women on temporary visas may face unique vulnerabilities related to immigration status, financial inclusion, employment, housing, and access to legal protections, which are often exploited by people using violence as tools for coercive control. The session will delve into the types of systems abuse women on temporary visas may experience and offer practical strategies to help practitioners recognise these signs early on in your interaction. A key focus will be understanding the impact of systems abuse on women’s ability to seek help, the role of immigration status in decision-making, and how practitioners can advocate for their clients' safety within this complex framework. Practitioners will have the opportunity to ask practice-related questions to our Ana, our Family Violence Intake Practitioner for tailored, real-world guidance.
Learning Outcomes:
Please note: To ensure an interactive and engaging one-hour with our practitioner, each session is limited to 20 participants. To give everyone a fair chance, we ask that only one practitioner per organisation signs up. Please only register if you can fully commit to attending and actively participating, with your camera on/ready to interact with our speaker.
When registering, kindly use your work email address as inTouch will only approve registrations from official accounts. We’re excited to have you be part of this practical learning experience! |
